Community Guidelines

Shoremingle is a place to meet people, join communities and spend time together on Islands. These guidelines apply everywhere on Shoremingle: on every Island, in Island Chat, in discussions, in private messages, and in your Islander and profile.

Be kind

• Treat people with respect, especially newcomers. Everyone is new once.
• Disagree with ideas, not people.
• No harassment, bullying, threats or intimidation.
• No hateful content that attacks people for who they are.

Keep it safe

• Shoremingle is for people aged 16 and over.
• No sexual content involving anyone under 18, ever.
• No content that encourages violence or self-harm.
• No sharing of other people's private information, including private messages, without their permission.

Be genuine

• Don't pretend to be someone else.
• No spam, scams or misleading content.

Respect each Island

Every Island is its own community. Its owner sets its rules and looks after it, with any moderators it has. Follow an Island's rules while you're there, as well as these guidelines.

What you can do

• Report an Islander, an Island Chat message, a discussion post or a private message. Reports go to the Shoremingle team privately; nobody is told who reported them.
• Block someone: you won't see each other, and they can't message you. They aren't told.
• Decline a message request. A first private message is a request, and nothing more arrives unless you accept.

What happens when guidelines are broken

• An Island's owner and moderators can hide discussion posts, lock discussions, remove Island Chat messages, and restrict someone from their Island for 1, 7 or 30 days, or until lifted.
• The Shoremingle team reviews reports and can remove content, restrict someone from an Island, suspend an account for 1, 7 or 30 days or until reinstated, or take an Island down. Every action is recorded.
• Reported private messages are reviewed only by designated reviewers, who see the reported message and a few before it. Island owners and moderators never read private messages.
• Suspending an account does not remove what that person has already posted.
